The NSW General Boat Licence Knowledge Test has 50 multiple-choice questions. You need 24 correct answers out of 30 in Section A, and 20 correct answers out of 20 in Section B.

Practical Experience and Logbook Requirements

A NSW general boat licence requires evidence of practical boating experience. You can meet this requirement by completing a practical logbook with an experienced skipper, or by completing approved practical training with an Authorised Training Provider. Service NSW says the logbook pathway requires at least 3 trips.

NSW Boat Licence Fees and Licence Length

NSW boat licences are available for 1, 3, 5 or 10 years. Fees vary depending on the licence length and whether you are paying the full or concession rate. Always check the current NSW fee page before applying, as government fees can change.

Current NSW fees are listed on the official licence and test fees page.

PWC and Jet Ski Licence Requirements

If you want to ride a jet ski or other personal watercraft in NSW, you need a PWC licence. You must hold a general boat driving licence first before you can upgrade to a PWC licence.
